Love my House Mouse stamps!! And sentiment by StampinUp. I miss stamping and making cards with my friends but this week I made a few more and it felt good. I'm still novice but I figure it's the enjoyment that counts and handmade is always sweeter to give. These are from last week: Not the fanciest but still my favorites for this month so far.

Update on my "hobbies"

Well of course as a Mom sometimes we change what we're "into" as often as a teenager so I've gone back and forth in and out of several phases lately. Today I made a card! I know, it's been a very long time, but I spent some time blog hopping this morning for the OWH Memorial Day 2011 blog hop and got the urge to go make one. The theme is "Missing You" this round, but I decided it wasn't necessary to follow the theme as they take "all occasion" cards all year long. I have pieces from months of piddling so it really was a quick card with a stamped image I had already colored in and trimmed out. All I needed was a piece of cardstock, a sentiment, and embellies. Done! Not a high fashion card but with my girls I really focus on getting done quickly before they decide they need to craft. At this point the craft room is such a mess we'd have to spend an hour cleaning first in order for 3 of us to make a card simultaneously. Anyhoo, thrilled about a card done, and hoping it will trigger more to follow. (I'll try to put a pic up in a day or so) Thanks for reading!

Yes, I do, I sell AVON now. I'm really liking all the products I've gotten so far and am really loving this deal. Right now all my profit is eaten up in samples and demos and tools but hopefully that will level out soon enough that this becomes a source of income for next year. Teacher Gifts

I'm not sure the etiquette of when to give gifts to teachers and I'm sure I miss lots of opportunities but I thought I'd do a little inexpensive fall treat for them. I used gatorade powder mix containers and covered them with some festive papers and stamps and fringe. Inside is an assortment of goodies for cocoa and coffee to candies and popcorn. I'm thinking they can consume the goodies and then maybe use the containers in class in the crayon or markers centers and such. I felt like making another quick birthday card with my House Mouse party stamps. I use my birthday studio G clear stamps a lot. This is actually one stamp but I covered the side I didn't want to ink up so I could split it up to stamp it around the image. It worked! whew!

Old Navy puts up an online ad each week that makes you hunt down your coupons. Most of the best ones are gone before I get on there but today I felt like hunting even though I don't plan to shop anytime soon. Go to http://www.oldnavyweekly.com/ and then try to guess what cute thing you need to do to find the coupons. So, click on the cake's #15 and get 15% off your total if you buy the item or the week or click on the girl far left crown that says 15 and drag it to the guy in the middle that isn't wearing a crown and you'll get 10% off your total. The neat thing is you can get a coupon for yourself and send one of the same deal to a friend each time. This runs Fri to Thurs so if you miss it this round or don't plan to shop by Thurs, then hold on and Fri when it resets you'll get more coupons to find. P.S. I have a 15% if anyone wants it...

Thanks to a Fiskateer challenge for Labor Day weekend I made a few new cards. The challenge was to make 2 bday cards but I am really low on those so I made 5. I did an image swap a few months ago and this gave me some new images. The girl is Sugar Nellie - Gorjuss - Goth Girl. If you like it check out the collection here. The sentiment is an old reliable. The butterflies were also swaps and I bought the "tine to grow" on clearance at Hobby Lobby. The first two say Happy Birthday on the inside. I made a few different girl cards and a few boyish cards with a PMS dino named Trike by Dustin Pike .

The edges are done with the upper crest fiskars border punch. It's rained a lot lately so I thought this card would be fun to chase away my rainy days blues.

I can't believe I've turned into a midnight blogger. I love sleep. I usually am not too far behind putting the girls in bed to locking down the house and going up myself. I do not like to miss too much sleep but this is the best quietest peaceful time in the house so what can I do? I'll be up at 6ish with Jaina I'm sure but she tends to want cartoons for the first hour and a chocolate milk. Chelly will most likely sleep much later. She was a real early bird until this year. Anyway, on to the show... My husband and his coworkers have noticed they may have a mouse burglar in the offices at night as their stash of goodies in their drawers seem to be getting nibbled. They have played a few pranks on the girls of the office of course teasing them in their fear that the mice might come when they are around. I'm not sure how I justify my assisting other than I love to make cards for any reason at all and this seemed just as good as any, so I used my new House Mouse stamps and made a card for each of the girls that hubby sits near to tease them about the mouse problem. Both cards are pretty basic but sometimes simple is all that is needed. I made a card with party and ballet that says "Sorry to hear about your mouse problem... Just keep your chin (and toes) up!" The mice are colored with watercolor pencils. The second card is the food thief with the guy on front eating apples and the guy inside spitting out the seed from the watermelon. One of the guys sitting near hubby actually has had some apples chewed so that one is extra funny for that reason. The watermelon mouse says "YES, I'm a MOUSE... Got a problem with that?" and this one is actually my favorite... cute mouse with attitude, haha. Well, both cards are otherwise simple, using GP cardstock, scraps, and little gems. So the really good news is that I went shopping and found 5 house mouse stamps on CLEARANCE at Hobby Lobby and then got home to find my hubby liked them and had a reason for me to ink 4 of them right away. Yippie! That's all for tonight folks. Happy Monday!

Recently we spent a week at Hilton Head Marriott and they offer kids things to do all week long. Each day had 4-5 options and we did a few of them randomly. Chelly and Jaina (with Mom help) both made necklaces with shark teeth and beads. Chelly LOVED this project so what do you think she wanted to do with the bucket of shells we brought home?? Of course! We are making necklaces. I am so proud of her. She's made 4 so far and has someone in mind for each one she designs. It's been a sweet project for us to do together and I love watching her and seeing those creative juices flow. I have high hopes for her artistic future.

I posted a question for my fiskateer friends about where I could get cheap kid scissors for my church who has a planned VBS missions trip to Romania this summer. We have taken on the challenge. 25+2

For those who don't know or haven't checked out the CFH site yet, we are each making 25 cards for the soldier to use to send notes home or to friends, and the +2 is TO the soldier from us. When I explained what I was making to my daughter she quickly wanted to make her own version. I used a waffle carton to cut out stars and SU bolds to smudge in patriotic colors. The ribbon I purchased at Target dollar spot. Thank you is stamped from Heidi Grace set using SU white ink. The swirls is an Inkado stamp from HL. Chelly's button is from my jar, her hearts and flowers are punched from bazzill, and her ribbon is also from my stash. I think the silver marker is her favorite tool nowadays. I'm pretty proud of her. It's a Chelly original. She needed help with the adhesives and how to spell "thank you" but otherwise she created and produced everything on this card.

My bowlicious diaper cake, a work in process

Thanks to my friend Sarah for teaching me months ago how to make bows. My girls don't wear them much but they make cute gifts.

I made two cute bella wedding cards, I think it's called hitchafellabella or something. I used stickles on her dress and fibers under the mat to give it frills. I have two cousins getting married next weekend. I threw in a simple bookmark with a lovey quote from scripture in each card.

My original plan for the cover was a pregnant stamp, but I called and the one I had in mind was out of stock, so my second plan was to borrow a baby carriage stamp from a friend which would have been even cuter since the baby will be born soon anyway and I'm guessing this journal to be more of a first year type book, but I've had some extra things this week so I opted instead to get it done using a cute stamp in my stash that I think turned out quite nice anyway. It says "welcome little one" in the bottom corner and "time to grow" on the big stamp. It allowed me to introduce a floral look to the baby look and I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt at this. TFL

baby journal part2

Ok, so part one I took off the binding and covered the front and back covers, inside and out. The outside is baby girl footprints and the inside of both is a floral paper. After I glued them down, I sanded the edges smoother and chalked them. I set my cropodile to make the hole punching faster. Just a note if you're going to make one, cover one side only and punch through all the holes before covering the other side or you'll be guessing at where the holes were when time to punch. At this point I decided to go ahead and put the notebook back together in it's spiral binding. I am going to borrow a stamp for the front so I worked instead on the inside front, which is a simple photo mat for baby's first picture. The stamps are SU merci and the corners are cut from the CM deco sq punch. Check back in a few days for the finished front.

For my bday I received a great altered notebook from my dear friend Beth and loved it right away as I'm a pretty big fan of both pink and bellas. Another friend even asked for one for her bday soon after. I found some notebooks on clearance yesterday so now I'm planning to turn one into a baby journal as a baby shower gift for a friend in church choir. I'm going to post some pics of the project over the next couple days as I don't get a lot of sit down and work time around here. Here's my before pic and beginnings of transformation. Basically I clipped the paper together, unbound the spiral, and began covering the background papers on the front and back covers. Check back tomorrow to see the papers I picked!

Fiskars May Card Sketch

I haven't done too many card sketches but this one looked great to me so I thought I'd give it a try. And I remembered to take a picture, woohoo! (The last few cards went in the mail without pics again, partly from misplacing my camera and partly from just not thinking about it.) Anyway, I went ahead and made three of them since I was using new 12x12 paper and not just scraps. It's based on this sketch from fiskarscrafts.com. I'm fairly pleased with these. They were fast except cutting the butterflies which was only one per card until my daughters saw them and each wanted a few of their own to use on their cards. The rest were straight cuts, punches, and chalking edges. Easy peasy!! Hope you had a great weekend!!!

cereal box

So what do you do with an empty cereal box? Turn it into a clipboard, of course!! My first instinct was this was too thin of material to work, so I decided to try this ridiculously strong spray adhesive I have left from another project to glue two panels together to make it thicker and stronger. Ok, I think it worked. It is pretty strong and sturdy now. And I happen to have some scraps of rubons from a clearance purchase that match great to some free notepads sent by a charity wanting money. And the background paper and cardstock is all scraps too. The poor prima on the clip is the wrong blue so I smudged it over with the same purple ink I used on the edges of the clipboard to make it look better. And that's what my few minutes of too early in the morning, 1/2 cup of coffee, something of an inspiration brought me. Well, off to play!! Have a great day all!!

A cute little bunny card from another ChicFilA card class by Katie and Funkie Munkie. He's adorable. I haven't figured out what I'll do with it yet but that growing pile of cards hasn't stopped me yet. I made another paper purse for my Grandmother's bday full of an assortment of cards, envies, a pen, and some forever stamps. I made one more too but I haven't given it to the person yet so I'll keep it secret. Since I was making mass cards I made a few "refills" for my sister who lovingly compliments me on how much she likes having these handmade cards to send out to her friends in Rock Hill.

I'm very glad spring is here. I love to spend time with my girls outside and they're loving this nice weather when we get it. That's one of many reasons I'm not posting much lately.

Anyhoo, I've been collecting scissors and crayons for our church - they are sending a team over this summer to host a vacation bible school for the children in Romania. When I mentioned this to my fiskateer friends asking where they recommended I shop for scissors they all started buying up a few pairs here and there and shipping them to me. I'm blessed to have such good friends and I haven't even met but a few of them.

I also just felt like making this layout the other day with no pics in mind which is very unusual for me. Some pieces are from an old swap way back and some I made myself. It's an unusual color and paper for the books I've done so far mainly baby girl books and beach trips but I did swaps like these to broaden out and this is gorgeous paper and colors.

So this ended up my favorite (and hubby agreed) of my week so far. I ripped up some pink tissue paper as the mat to this card and it softens the look of the card tremendously. I love black and white but they tend to be very harsh against each other sometimes. The sentiment is an old rubber stamp from the local retail shop. The heart is leftover from a project a few months ago playing with fiskars punches and HG stamps. I added a little flower/bling to perk it up. The butterfly balances out the top corner and pops a little while the two pink glittery flowers are some strange types of sticker-like things I found a few months back. And my Wed ChicFilA (Funkie Munkie) card with Katie came out pretty cute. The stars are with CM punch and pop up dots. I LOVED using the crimper by Fiskars so that is now on my want list for craft supplies. I think it added a cute touch. And Katie had the sentiment paper precut but I'm going to add whatever cuttlebug or nestie or what this is from to my want list too. I'm seeing a lot of it and really like it's style.

So for today's card I added a touch of pink and yellow with my black bazzill blackground, used my new Heidi Grace stamps on a scrap of pink paper, and some leftover flowers and pink gem in the center. I am really loving the versafine black ink. And I colored the little birdie with watercolor pencils.

My goal is to make several cards this week and to start with I'll focus on a black and white theme on a light gray base. This is a mixture of standard cardstock, textured bazzill, music note minipunch, scallop circle punches, a butterfly punch, and a music sheet stamp. This came as the first card after doing a batch of inchies for a swap so I guess inchies were still on my brain.

Novice mistake, again I forgot to take pics of my inchies before I mailed them. I made a card with one of my new PMS stamps last week for Mom and mailed it before taking a pic too. I seem to do that more often than I realize. I'll try to sneak a pic when I'm over there this week.

Ok, so my friend Katie is teaching a card class at ChicFilA on Pelham Rd sponsored by the store Funkie Munkie every Wednesday in March and April. Well, I happen to pick up my parents and go up there for the free breakfast last Wednesday and we hung out to make cards. My Mom and I made cards while Dad watched the kids play and entertained her baby. Anyway, the cards were both super cute and I think Mom and I will go again next week. Check them out!! I don't know who's stamps or anything but I do know everything is available and in stock at the store right now.

This card tickled me because I was planning to make a cute card for my new neighbor to use to give them our names and phone numbers. This was perfect!!

Well, my parents are moved, my hectic schedule slowed a bit, and I had an eye injury which is improving, so I'll hopefully be back to normal card making/scrapbooking mode soon. TFL

Gratitude for Military Service

No matter what your political views, I think most of us do appreciate our military and what they are asked to do for our country and others. I'm working on two care packages at present. One is going to the k4class adopted troop through my daughter's preschool. The other is going to a family member of a friend to pass around his troop. I have another military mother in my choir who is coming home for a week at the end of this month. It would be nice to send some things with him as well. He isn't even enlisted - he is a firefighter who was asked to go to Iraq with a firefighting team to protect the troops' base post because they are hit almost daily with bombings of sorts that regularly cause fires within the area that is supposed to be a safe place to sleep between duties. Ok, so I am in "using it up" mode because I like to buy things but have a hard time making use of what I've purchased. I found some cat stickers and scraps, so here's the cards that they made. My biggest problem is I lack focus, primarily due to beautifully sweet girls who love to come take all my stuff and interrupt every 30 seconds, but they enjoy getting pieces to play with as well and Chelly has made several cards in anticipation of her favorite cousin coming to visit this weekend. Guess what's on some of these cards? Yep, cats, flowers, dots, gems, chipboard, butterflies, and anything else you saw on the last few posts. It's almost a one to one ratio with sharing with her now. :) TFL

Two bella cards

The first bella card is from a sketch off Little Paper Shop http://littlepapershop.blogspot.com/ except I didn't use ribbon tied into a bow on mine, just patterned paper with a stamp that went a little better with this particular card. I love pink and green together and had fun with it.

On my second card, I was going to use a sketch but changed my mind once I started so this is how it came out. I found this patterned paper in the Target $ spot - as a pack of all sorts of valentines and spring colored papers. They are pretty thin so I'm using a nice thick textured cardstock as a base.

Personal challenge

So I have purchased things that I've found hard to work with - I'm sure you can relate. Well I have some rubons which were in a clearance bin. Upon actually using them they were HORRID to get transfered. I tried heat and steam and every tool I could find and ended up tossing some of them because they just wouldn't cooperate and I gave up. That was months ago. So yesterday, I pulled out some defective stickers I purchased awhile back. I couldn't bear to toss them because they are beautiful embossed butterfly stickers. I LOVE them. Except I guess the printer set up backwards and they peel off with a super smooth slick back instead of adhesive sticker back. The sticky part is left of the back sheet of paper. WRONG! Glue and atg tape hasn't worked so I decided to try zots. Well, so far they are sticking but it wasn't easy to make them go on there so we'll see if after a day or two they are still stuck to it. I know, should've taken them back but I don't have any receipt and took them out of their original packaging back then before I knew they were wrong. I assume I could call the company but that's just a pain. Anyway, here's my card with them. I hope it works because I still have the rest of the sheet to use. TFL

Simplicity

For this birthday card, I used plain cardstock with a music background stamp on green cardstock, copper ink on brown paper cut out for the pot, stamped the stem onto the paper directly, and scallop punch red over white for the flower using glue dots to lift slightly. As always, I made multiples of this card.

The other card is a horse stamp my daughter picked out. I also love horses so I of course don't discourage this passion.

Challenges

Challenges, challenges. My first pic is for a fiskateers challenge called showcase your face and you can only enter if your bday falls in the current month (mine is Feb 27th). You can only have yourself in the picture, which is terribly hard for me because I'd rather scrap my girls or even the cat or trees than to take a pic of myself and write about it. So I did what any other shy gal would do, I made fun of me! My daughter took the picture and did a pretty good job for a 4yo. And the title was pretty easy once I printed it and looked at it. The other layouts are a challenge for www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com for National Childrens Dental Health Month so the picture is of my 2yo smiling big and showing her teeth. I incorporated my desire to start a scrapbook of family heirloom type pieces that we have in our home. This serves a purpose of letting the kids and/or their guardians know (if we were to pass away before telling them) what items in our house have special heritage value. My hub and I did not get many things passed down to us and the few we did get are treasures so I'm hopeful this will make it easy for the future generations to pass things down that mean something special to us. That's part of the purpose of scrapbooking anyway, right? Preservation of our thoughts and feelings? Anyway, hope you all have a WONDERFUL Valentinesy Weekend!!

We actually partially made this card in our Fiskateers class at Funkie Munkie but I didn't actually finish mine all the way and by the time I got home I decided to revamp some of it's parts and push it a bit further into a lovey card for my hubby for Vday. Although there's barely any pink or red, I think it turned into a great man-card. Plus I'm having other red and pink Vday things that will be coming to him, too. For instance, I made this hanging heart with pics of our girls in b/w and pink inside and pink ribbon. I also made a woven heart out of pink and red cardstock and embellished with rubons. Both of these were similar to things I've seen blog-hopping but I'm afraid I don't recall who exactly to give credit to for them.

I also made a bookmark and a simple heart with cuttlebug heart embossing and a ticket for one free kiss from a stamp I purchased recently. I'm trying to decide if I want to just give him all of it at once or start tomorrow and make it run all through the weekend, in bits and pieces. Either way, I'm going to do way more this Vday than usual and break out of my mold. :) Pssssst, don't tell him!!!

This is MM papers from a 6x6 cosmopolitan collection. I made a button inchie for it using cm scalloped squares punches, inked paper edges with colorbox chalks, used a butterfly gem from Michael's dollar racks, a border and flower stamp from Heidi Grace (thanks Debby!) and a sentiment stamp from my studio g collection. TFL

This set of 4 mini cards I made just because I've never done anything in fiskateer colors and wanted to give them a try. It's a bright color combination and it does POP wherever it sits. I don't think I'll lose these among my scrappy mess. They came out pretty cute and I used my new studio g thanks stamps, a SU scallop circle punch, a border punch (maybe EK), and some random brads, buttons and things I had leftover from who knows what. Maybe by the time I try this again I will have more fiskars tools and product to play with. YAY!!

Tea LO Challenge

Ok, so I decided to have a cup of Apple Cider and thought about this challenge some more as I picked my mug for today and I decided to use the Niece/Nephew mug because it's perfect for one packet. I have two fav's and so I decided to go ahead and do my LO on them while I enjoyed my cider. This is for Groovy Deb's challenge and the deadline is fast approaching so if you haven't started yet - time is now! I used some tea cup paper that I bought when one of our local LSS went out of business and some simple scallop circle flowers and punched hearts and basic cardstocks.

My fav part of the LO is the reflection of my mug on my stovetop - finally a pic came out like I wanted it!!!! Well, have a great evening everyone!!

So I'm just goofing off this week with stuff. I get sidetracked really easy sometimes so it makes it hard to complete something with focus and purpose. I joined in a few challenges for the fiskateers online crop but only managed to get about two of them entered by the deadline, mostly due to fighting with my camera and lack of expertise in that area. The few pics I did get I still didn't get posted on time but that's ok since it was just fun to try to keep up. They had something every hour if not more so it was a challenge to do any of them while not letting my family feel left out. My girls pretty much assume when I scrap that they'll be making stuff, too, which adds to the challenges. Thanks to Fiskateer Carlee, who sent us some cool stamps to play with, the girls had a good time making some cards and decorating my house. The first pic was inspired by a black and white challenge where I made a hanging charm set of pics backed with some pink bazzill bling. The second pic ws inspired by a cupcake challenge and also a stickles challenge. I needed a pair of identical boy bday wishes cards anyway for a bday party for the twin boys in my daughter's k4 class. The third pic was inspired by a tea challenge on http://ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com/2009/01/intearesting-stuff.html. Sometimes I leave her blog up just for the groovy background music. :)

Ok, I did it, I joined an inchie swap. I've heard of them but hadn't really tried to do one and now that I am in one I made my basic inchies and am trying to come up with more to do to them before I send them off. Here's what I have so far. The pic isn't great but either my camera is slowly dying or I've gotten seriously worse at taking pics. Anyhoo, they are about 1in sq brown base of course and a slightly smaller square of pp inside with light pink, brown, and cream colors. I did chalk these edges.. The pink foam heart is centered and just below them to the right I added a row of 3 pink mini-bling gems.

So I think these are pretty basic and simple cards but here's the deets: My friend let me play with her cuttlebug MONTHS ago and I had made the butterfly for card 1 and the music background for card 2. Even longer ago I stamped a few bellas from another friend that I pulled out and colored with watercolor pencils and used a blender pen to just smooth them a bit. The rest is pretty self explanatory, mostly scraps and leftovers from other projects.

My two crafts for today. I decided to do one more of the card holders in this pink and deep purple paper. I like it better than the others I've made as this is more my color palette and the others I made were more color choices based on my intended recipients. Anyhoo, I like it. I also got an urge for some reason to turn an empty bowtie pasta box into a bella boat. For some reason looking sideways at this box I decided it would be the perfect size for my bella stamp collection so basically this is my new current storage for my bella stamps and when it was done holding my pitiful collection (only 4 bella stamps so far) I decided it looked more like a boat. Following through with this fun notion I added some pinwheels and a button and think it really looks kinda boaty without looking like I tried to make a boat. And Bella-Boat sounds fun... Just in case anyone is interested, I trimmed my pasta box to 3 in tall and of course covered it completely with pink, yellow, and brown pp scraps and embellished with leftovers from misc swaps. Again, just one of those days where my mojo was more like jomo...hope you get a kick out of my urges! (By the way, I am on extra meds for a bum shoulder so that may be affecting my creativity.)

I admit, I'm a big scraplifter. I love to find someone's good ideas and luckily sometimes templates to get me started. I don't usually print off templates but I do get basic idea of how that person trimmed and connected all the corners and such. I've seen versions of card holders on many sites lately and the purse style won my heart this year. I made a few of these for presents for Christmas. They're all variations of similar just playing with the details but I added a little pocket on the front to hold the stamps and made a triangled pocket inside to keep a pen in place. The holder itself is approx 4.5h x 6.5w x 2d. They were a big hit so a few people that didn't get one have requested them for bdays coming up soon. And of course I make at least a dozen or so handmade cards in each purse.
